Sneak peek at my new living room flooring. This was a Chilewich place mat I cut to size and painted a border to match the colors of the door. I painted the floor underneath yellow to show through the mat, glued it down and have since put baseboard moldings along the wall right over it. I like this because I can leave it bare, or I can put one of two carpets on top - either the leopard spot Scalamandré or the plain blue chenille (seen here). Options are nice. I also like it because it lends a bit of Orientalism to the room, which sits well with the Hollywood Regency (all about Chinoiserie, & shiny lacquer & bamboo everything) look I’m going for. With a dash of Dali, for a good measure of the Surreal, of course.
