Bleached walnut & leather Precedent Line occasional tables By Edward Wormley for Drexel, circa 1955
Edward Wormely was the chief designer for Dunbar Furniture Co. from 1931 - 1968. For a brief period during that time, he designed the Precedent series for Drexel, a competitor. This series was marketed toward an upscale conservative modern Beverly Hills clientele. But his work for Drexel strained his relationship with Dunbar, and he discontinued designing for Drexel, securing his position with Dunbar. It is considered that Wormley wasn’t at his peak during his time contracting with Drexel and most of the vintage Drexel pieces are not heavily valued - but I’d take Wormley at his worst over Ikea at their best any day of the week.
